The Gospel Truth Coat

This full-length coat was commissioned by Anita Knox, then curate of the Kansas City African American Museum, for an exhibition called “The Griots of Fiber”, or Story Coats. This is a completely original design and machine quilted by myself. The coats were to tell a story about African-American music. I chose gospel music for this piece, reminiscent of my days as a little girl, thrilled to listen to my mother sing in the church choir.
